Storytelling Through AAA Prop Texturing
A great prop is not remembered because of its modeling. It's remembered because of the story it tells.
In this live hands-on workshop, Carlos Lorca, Senior 3D Artist with over 10 years of professional experience in the video game industry, will share his approach to transforming a simple asset into a compelling and believable piece through the power of texturing and visual storytelling.
Carlos has contributed to projects such as Lords of the Fallen, Darksiders 4, MediEvil Remaster, and IGI Origins, while also collaborating with industry-leading studios including Epic Games, Sony, 2K, and Eidos Montreal.
Throughout the workshop, we will work on a medieval helmet, covering the complete texturing process from start to finish while focusing on how to create narrative and personality through materials, wear, damage, and surface details.
During the session, you'll learn:
✅ How to create compelling environmental storytelling through textures.
✅ Techniques for adding believable wear, dirt, damage, and history to a prop.
✅ How to build visual interest and material variation without overcomplicating the asset.
✅ Professional texturing workflows used in AAA production.
✅ Artistic decision-making and how to support the narrative of an object through surface treatment.
✅ Practical tips and tricks gathered from years of industry experience.
Rather than simply applying materials, Carlos will demonstrate how every scratch, stain, and imperfection can serve a purpose and help communicate the life, function, and history of an asset.
If you want to learn how to turn clean, generic props into believable objects with character, context, and storytelling value, this workshop is for you.
